GUB is definitely on to something here, albeit unintentionally. I bought a new GPS (Garmin DriveSmart55) for my motorcycle. I needed a way to install it and I contacted Ram Mounts first for an answer. I've been using Ram Mounts for over 10 years and figured they would make a stand that I could easily replace. no Not only did Ram not get in touch, but when I called them to see if it would be ready the answer was a rather arrogant NO. I think the updated version because I don't see the difference. After removing all of the Ram hardware from the handlebars, I installed the GUB. It was very basic and gives the bike a much cleaner look than the Ram hardware. The parts are all made of aluminum and appear very solid. The stem is long enough to clear the bar clamps but short enough not to look awkward. The long claws hold the GPS securely (I've ridden over 100 miles on all types of roads, including gravel) but, and this is my only gripe, I wish the claws were a little longer. The claws reportedly measure 18mm. My GPS is 18mm wide so the claws keep it straight. If the claws were 20mm or 21mm this mount would be perfect! Even better would be a mount with 4 tabs on the corners to allow the GPS to be centered and clamped. However, in landscape format only half of the GPS is within the swath width (see photo). Gub are you listening? All in all, this is a very nice little mount. If GUB ever makes a mount with slightly longer claws, I'll be first in line.
