I've never followed trends. Especially the exaggerated ones. So I never saw Miami Vice, Survivor, Ambulance. I never had a Pet Rock or My Little Pony. I'll never have a Blackberry, Razr or Chocolate (cell phone, of course I'll eat candy). So when the iPod showed up with its ubiquitous multimedia ad campaigns, I just ignored the pesky little upstart and ended up buying the iRiver, which I've been happy with for the past few years. Well, there are now media players that not only play music, but also pictures, videos and films. So when I saw the mostly positive reviews for zVue on Revain, I decided to take a closer look. I bought it at Wal-Mart for $79. I could buy an iPod Shuffle for the same price, but it ONLY plays music. And okay, I will not download music or movies from zVue because they suck. But with a 2GB SD card, I was able to download nearly 200 songs, which my iPod owners say is nothing compared to the entire CD collection in their pocket. You know what? I don't understand why I have my entire CD collection in my bag. I use my player to listen to the CDs I just bought, then after a while I save the songs I like and delete the rest. I also have old favorite songs that I enjoy listening to over and over again. Fewer than a hundred songs fall into this category. One thing that's annoying about zVue is that it stops playing the song when you press the menu button. I don't understand why this is happening. I haven't played my DVDs on zVue yet. I will update this review after I figure out how to convert vob to avi.
