Review on ⏰ Sangean RCR-3 AM/FM Atomic Digital/Analog Clock Radio - White | Efficiently Sized by Carol Merkley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Bad warranty support. No complete instruction manual.

This clock radio is the best I have ever used. The manual is missing some information on setting up the alarm clock and working with it. I spent over an hour fiddling and experimenting with the buttons to figure out what actually makes this clock tick (no pun intended). For example, nothing is said about the alarm buttons lighting up when activated. Additionally, the volume control on the side of the device is for non-alarm modes only. The volume control on the bottom of the unit is for alarm mode only and should only be adjusted when the radio is in alarm mode. Experimentation, trial and error are worth the effort. UPDATE (3-5-18): Six months of good service, after that the radio stops beeping the alarm. Returns to the buzzer even if the radio is explicitly selected. periodic defect. I called Sangean for warranty support. First they wanted an $8 check filled with returns to pay for return shipping - bad enough that I have to pay shipping to them - but not both ways? BACH. Also, they said that if they didn't see an error, they would send it back with the note "No problems found". I bluntly explained to them that the problem was intermittent and if they couldn't find and fix the problem, I didn't want to go the "send and come back" route. I will not buy another Sangean product. UPDATE #2 (3/18/18): Same issue with switching alarm to buzzer when set to radio. I finally realized that this seems "normal" - I live in an area where the FM signal goes on and off and the radio sometimes cuts out. When this happens, the Sangean radio "knows" that the signal is weak/no signal and then reverts to the buzzer. I was able to prove this by intentionally tuning the alarm to an unused FM frequency - it reverts to buzzer whenever no FM signal is received. This function is NOT in the manual! I called Sangean to see if they had any information on this - they didn't have any. (Their service center is in Los Angeles, where FM reception is very strong, so the weak/no signal issue wouldn't show up on their dyno.) After discovering this weak signal condition, I'm going to try various methods using an external Antenna to improve reception. Sangean does not offer any such accessories for this. I'm going to play around with the existing wire antenna on the radio. I've now tuned the radio to a LOUD rock station and the Sangean works every time. No problem. I gave them four stars.
