This is a troubleshooting tool. I removed the ceiling mount in the kitchen and found that the wiring was only routed through a hole in the ceiling. There was no electrical box and the hole was not next to the bolt. This product was the answer. I simply cut a larger hole about 4 inches in diameter. I then inserted a steel rod into the hole and extended the rod to match the spacing between the studs by twisting to unscrew. I then simply finger tightened the rod to secure the tabs on each end into the wood studs. I then attached the box to the pole with a flange mount. The box has a magnetic holder that holds the box when attaching the flange mount to the stem (helps a lot when both hands are free to work). Tip: Find the distance between the studs and then lengthen the stem by about an inch. less than this distance before inserting the rod into the hole. This reduces the number of turns required to attach the rod to the studs once inserted into the ceiling.
