Adorable set, well made

I received these butterflies in preparation for a fabulous birthday for a 5 year old. The set is packaged in a small plastic bag with tape along the flap, so be careful when removing the butterflies to avoid getting the glue on the wings. I find it easiest to remove them all rather than trying to remove a few at once. The kit includes several sheets of self-adhesive circles. Butterflies are cut out of cardboard. It's thin and looks very fragile, but feels sturdy when you touch it. The details of the wings are rendered really nicely (laser cut, I believe) and although the details are made from very small paper cuts, I don't find them prone to bending or tearing with regular handling. The wings are perforated on the sides of the body, making it easy to fold the wings the way you want (I included a close-up of a butterfly in this review to show this perforation). I have gold butterflies and they are gold plated on both sides so they look good from every angle. I find it strange that the supplied adhesive dots are much larger than actually necessary. If you want to draw butterflies with folded wings as suggested, you will most likely only need glue on the butterfly's thorax/belly, not the wings. The sticky circles are just under ยฝ inch in diameter, and most of the butterfly's body is less than ยผ inch wide. The instructions that come with it say to cut the glue to the right size, but in this case it would be easier to have one long strip of glue than a few dots. As mentioned, I'm saving them for a birthday party, but I love them so much I've decided to stick a small one on my computer monitor. I trimmed the glue dot to the right size and it worked fine, although it's a somewhat sticky substance and not a regular sticker. This made it a bit difficult to gently peel the paper strip away from the backing of the adhesive after pressing it against the butterfly. If you choose to cut the glue, make sure you cut it with both sticky pads. I made the mistake of trimming it after tearing off one side first and in fact it just got stuck on my scissors. I would also recommend using a good pair of sharp scissors as I think this will probably help the glue not stick to the liner a bit like it did in my case. On the plus side, the adhesive gives a good grip and I love seeing this little butterfly perched on my monitor when I'm at my desk. At $7.95 for a pack of 52, it's worth it. They're sure to make a great impact at my kids' party and I wouldn't be surprised if she asked me to hang them on her wall afterwards!
