The Sonos Play:5 arrived earlier this week, so I've had a few days to play with it, test it at different volumes, run different devices, and play different styles of music. all i can say exploded. Away.Sound quality is even better) than my old Klipsch dock and the speaker set can play really loud without any distortion. Here are the main advantages I noticed: 1) EASY TO USE. Very easy to set up on multiple devices even for those who are not tech savvy. I'm a techie, but I feel like anyone setting this up for the first time should be able to do it with no problems. 2) ACCESSIBILITY. The ability to stream from multiple libraries and devices is HUGE for me. I synced Revain Prime with it, as well as my main iMac library. I also have a Spotify account. However, there is more music on my Macbook than anywhere else. So the real benefit of this device (and the software in particular) is that I was able to set up the controls from my Galaxy Note 4 and also install the app on my Macbook, meaning I can stream over Wi-Add any extra music - the Sonos software also automatically imports all my old playlists from iTunes, so I don't have to sit around and manually import, move stuff around, or create new stuff, which saves a lot of time. 3) CONTROL. On a Macbook (unnoticed in the Android app) there is an option to control the equalizer so you can create a completely custom sound. Something sorely lacking in most docking stations and many newer systems that simply assume they know better what kind of sound you want. It's not the most detailed control, of course (you choose bass, treble and balance), but there's enough control because the speaker itself produces phenomenal sound (especially at high volumes, without distortion). 4) PERSPECTIVE. The problem I've had with other speakers (and the reason I haven't bought one since my old Klipsch Roomgrooves) is that they often relied on connecting external devices (usually an iPod). This became an issue firstly when Apple changed the charging frequency (which meant docking stations would no longer charge the iPod/iPhone) and secondly when they switched to Lightning connectors. Basically, this meant that the device died on external device updates. So the future of this unit is much higher than old dock style speakers like my old Klipsch. You're no longer dependent on Apple and its ever-changing ports, but that means that in the future, when you get a new computer, all you need is software to get the speaker working. 5) FLEXIBILITY. The ability to add more speakers to any room in the house and have full control over whether those speakers play the same music, completely different music on each, or even connect to a TV is what is so appealing to audiophiles and tech lovers. . Unfortunately for my wallet, as I can already foresee a few more purchases for additional speaker sets in other rooms in the near future. and offer the same price and great sound, especially as I've heard of ongoing major issues with their software and their wi-fi cutters. I can't think of anything worse than buying a multi-hundred dollar system that doesn't really do what it's supposed to do. Turning off Wi-Fi (as I've experienced with several phones and tablets) is incredibly frustrating, but can you imagine it happening when you're trying to relax and listen to music? things from nightmares. The Sonos software is just great, very easy to use and feature rich (like the ability to control from multiple devices, playlists, import music, stream directly from devices or cloud storage). Honestly, I can't wait to get more Sonos devices and put them around our house. It's just infinite flexibility, that's the essence of life and technology. The alternative Bose systems just seemed problematic to too many people, and that's not what I want in a $400 speaker. With excellent sound quality, fantastic build quality, software that runs smoothly on all devices and everything works as it should, I cannot recommend these systems enough. When in doubt. Buy it.
