Review on Aleta S2C 360 Camera Camcorder Standard Set (Batteries Excluded) + 12V DC Adapter (US Version) by Lamont Manjrekar

A BIG reason to buy this camera 360

I've had this camera for a week now and I've tried all the modes, tried all the functions and the phone app. So far it has been mostly positive. To get straight to the point; There's really only one reason to buy this camera over the Insta360 ONE X, and that's the still panoramic resolution, which is 66MP or 12k (just under 12,000 x 6,000 pixels). I'm running the phone app on a samsung galaxy s7 and the app works fine but it's slow at times and lost wifi on my 20ft pole a few times. The application is constantly being improved, as are fairly frequent camera firmware updates. I paid $1,000 after using the discount code I found and still I felt the cost was too high compared to what I received considering the price of Insta360 ONE X is much lower. Also, the 18650 batteries didn't last as long as I had hoped (1 hour). Also, some of my 18650 batteries weren't working, so battery compatibility may be the issue. So if your main interest is video I'd go with the Insta360 ONE X, but if you want the highest resolution 360 HDR panoramas this is the best I've found in this price range. Also note that some online reviews of this camera mention that you can shoot in an bracketing mode called RAW, which saves individual NOT STEAMED images, but since there's so little overlap between photos, no stitching software can easily stitch them together. Photos, so the company removed this mode from the phone software. However, I found that on the camera itself you can switch between different modes and select a RAW mode that saves individual images and when I tried to stitch them together in Autopano Giga I got a very strange and unusable result. If this camera was able to save a higher quality format like HDR, EXR or TIF I would give it 5 stars but you only get JPG. Even at ISO 100 you still see noise when you zoom in (this was a daylight shot). A $1,000 camera should be able to give you noise-free daylight photos, since even my phone's camera can do that. Merging bracketed shots in a program like Photomatix Pro can go a long way in reducing noise and creating high-quality 360-degree panoramas.

Pros
  • AletaS2C Viewer App, iOS/Android Support
Cons
  • Useless functions
