It does not work. for AV accessories

We've read reviews saying you can use this to connect old gaming systems to new TVs. We wanted to connect our Wii, so we took it. However, it didn't work right out of the box. Was this defective? I am not sure. All we know is that it didn't work for what was advertised and it came back.
