We have just moved into a new apartment with a waste chute - the sink is on an island and the switch on the side of that island is at about waist height. We just had a baby and although she is VERY young to walk and blend in, all I could do was think about how dangerous this transition would be if she were mobile. We were looking for a solution that a) wouldn't be easy for a toddler to understand - they can be smart little bugs and b) even if they could understand it, it wouldn't be easy for them to use. This product was the answer! It's not as obvious as other switch housings I've seen, and it's not so easy to use for a toddler. There is significant resistance at the switch that a toddler would have a hard time finding! And the spring return feature is great because the switch can't stay on! As soon as you let go of the mechanism, it will come back and turn off the switch!
