Sturdy but easily scratched.
So I bought them to wear with the tuxedos I bought for a wedding my two little boys were attending. The other guys at the wedding paid tons of money to rent tuxedos/shoes. These shoes held up much better than the other boys who rented them. However, these shoes seem to wear down very easily, so I wouldn't expect them to last more than 1 or 2 events. However, they are strong enough for boys to be boys.
