So, I have a Lumix FH20 and suddenly it started taking bad pictures. I fiddled with every setting I could think of to no avail. I've only had the camera for 3 years but I really liked it so I decided to get another Panasonic Lumix. This should tell you how much I think of Panasonic cameras (even 'broken' ones). When my new camera arrived I was thrilled with the extra zoom and zoom in/out video capability, which I couldn't. do with FH20. But wait. What's that little red button on the top right of the FH20's camera that looks like the little red button on the SZ7? iA. humble little devil. It stands for "Intelligent Auto Mode". It's scary to find out your camera is smarter than you! I never pressed that button, but once I did I had to wonder why Panasonic made it possible to take blurry photos instead of amazing photos (although blurry photos had a certain charm if you squinted long enough). The SZ7 has enough new and different settings to keep me busy for months. It will take me a while to get used to the various settings of my ingrained (minus that little red button) use of the old cherished camera. The image and video quality seems excellent so far. I never leave the house without a camera in my purse, and this one (and the old one) is perfect for that purpose. The SZ7 is actually thinner than the FH20. Panasonic has managed to pack more functions into a smaller body. Pretty cool! This fiasco has a silver lining. I love my new camera and my husband will take my old one with me when traveling as his camera is really (very) bad and doesn't have the right memory card to easily upload it to an iPad or other modern technology. I am now the proud owner of two great cameras, one with lots of bells and whistles, the other with lots of great memories. victory, victory. I'm not a professional photographer. Just someone who wants to capture moments spontaneously. This camera suits me perfectly.
