Review on ๐Ÿ“ท BOYO VTB123HD: Versatile Flush Mount HD Backup Camera for Side or Rear Dual-Use by Jonathan Fernandez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Serious competitor: Car & Vehicle Electronics

I bought half a dozen rear and side cameras and threw them away as inadequate. However, it makes the score for a number of reasons. Image quality is high, colors are decent, and noise levels are comparatively low. It still doesn't compare to digital cameras (like the Hero 3), but it's definitely a step up compared to direct competitors. Low-light performance is also well above average. This camera does not have IR so you are blind in complete darkness. I would recommend a separate IR panel if you really need this feature. However, decent reverse lights are more than enough for typical reversing. On an older car, you can increase the power of the reversing lights. Aspherical distortion is exactly what you would expect from such a small lens - fish, I sympathize with you. The auto dimming is very subtle compared to the CCDs I've tried and definitely better for on the go. The physical ergonomics are excellent. The base of the chamber is about 1 inch and 1/4 by 1 inch. The camera protrudes about half an inch from the mounting surface. The kit even includes a drill bit to drill a properly sized hole in the bodywork or perhaps a mirror mount. However, I would recommend investing in a higher quality drill bit with sharper teeth. When delivered, the camera has a displayed distance grid and a stop sign in the red area. It's fine for reversing, but I was interested in the side view application. To do this, you simply cut a small blue wire and the grid disappears - you can just connect it to a switch if you want to control the function. The camera creates an inverted image, similar to looking in a car mirror, which is very important. special feature. This is actually the main reason why I couldn't customize Hero 3 for its intended use! So overall I really like this camera. The only reason I'm giving it one star is because the picture quality, while good compared to its competitors, is still closer to "last gen". Also, it doesn't have camera shake compensation. The output is analogue composite and I connected it to a 9 inch high resolution TFT display. I'm using it to make up for the loss of an eye, so I'm a little picky. I wish someone would have built a satisfactory kit, but I couldn't find one. A good kit should have multiple cameras, work in total darkness, have HD digital quality, and perform additional tasks like digital jitter elimination, lens distortion compensation, automatic camera overlap (so camera images are stitched together in real time), and many other features. obvious collision avoidance technologies - more like a Microsoft Kinect system adapted for use in a car. Until then, this camera is the acceptable entry level for this role.
