Most of the winter I run on snowy and icy roads. I've used YakTrax Run for the last few years which are good for traction but don't last more than 200-250 miles so I need at least two pairs to get through the winter. When the last pair wore out I decided to buy something else. Korkers are actually a bit more comfortable on hard ground (my route is over a road bridge that's usually bare asphalt): YakTrax with their spirals feel like walking on marble, Korkers are more like tap shoes. Korkers may not be as stable on packed snow but are much better on ice. They also have a much more secure shoe attachment system: Not only is the YakTrax system prone to slipping, I found the Velcro strap on the forefoot to put pressure on my toes. Despite being one size fits all, the Korkers' fastening system is all rubber and fits my size 8 shoes like a glove. I'm hoping the Korkers do really well in terms of durability. YakTrax's metal spools crack and snap, the relatively thin rubber mesh that holds the spools together breaks, and the small spikes on the ball of the foot fall out. Korker's spikes are much larger and can be replaced if (or when) they fall out or wear out. If there's anything to worry about the Korkers this winter, I'll declare them the clear winner!
