We live in an area with very hard water, average 240 ppm or 14 grains per gallon. This system with the SimplySoft is rated to work with up to 25 grains per gallon according to Aquasana's information. Our water is also city water which is heavily chlorinated. It has been about 3 weeks since the install and yes it has improved the taste of the water in our whole house. The chlorine smell and taste is completely gone. As for the reducing the effects of hard water only time will tell. We do see less hard water deposits and the deposits do not seem to build up as much between cleanings. We also notice while showering the shampoo and soap lather better. We use Borax to help soften the water in the laundry and help the detergent clean better and leave less hard water deposits in the washer. We have done a few loads of laundry without the Borax and the SimplySoft seems to work. As the laundry looks as clean without Borax and there are no hard water deposits after the washer dries, a front loading washer. We chose to get this installed by a local plumber in order to keep Aquasana's warranty.
