The pillars inside make it too uncomfortable

I wanted a small and cheap cat tower to replace the one my cat loved and gave to her grandparents for my move. My cat is 6 or 7 pounds so I wasn't concerned about the size. However, the way the bars are attached inside makes the size inside much smaller. There is no comfortable way for them to lie down without a bar in their face, back and butt. I can just ransom the one she loved or she'll pay more for the lock I saw, but that's a failure.
