Review on Hi-Res Philips Fidelio L2BO Over-ear Premium Portable Headphones with In-line Mic, Noise Isolation - Black/Orange by Meghan Brown

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Don't buy based on old reviews. At some point they changed the drivers/specs from great to terrible.

They released it in 2014 and eventually after many great reviews they replaced the drivers with lower quality ones. They updated the specs but not the model number. So when you look at the reviews all the old good ones show up but what they are selling now sounds completely different but has the same name and look. This type of decoy and switch should be illegal when it isn't, and enforceable when it is. I got some of these in 2017 and I really like them as they are the same as described in old reviews. I got a new pair in 2020 because I broke the old ones. The new ones sounded worse, the bass was deeper but distorted, like cheap headphones. At high frequencies, the distortion of things like characters is more noticeable in 320-bit mp3s, and the extra bass drowns out the guitar parts compared to the old ones. I then managed to repair the old ones and use the new ones as spares. A year later I looked at the specs on the box while discussing a new BT receiver and noticed that newer ones have different specs. The biggest and worst difference is total harmonic distortion, the old pair is listed at 0.01% THD and the new pair is listed at 3% THD. I give the original model 5 stars but these new ones are overpriced junk compared to them. Had I been more considerate when I received them a year ago I would have returned them and gotten something else for the $120 I paid. I actually paid a lot less for the older and better at $68. The old box on the left, the new box on the right.

Pros
  • Good build
Cons
  • Useless features
