I love the softness of this bedding material! I was wondering if it would have that "new" smell, almost that stained smell that makes you want to wash such a smelling item before use, but it really doesn't! My older 5 lb Malti Poo tends to catch cold easily and this was the perfect thing for her to curl up and take a nap! And since she's 15, she doesn't always stop peeing completely before she starts walking, which means most of the urine ends up on the tip of her tail or her back legs, so I needed a bed that had a removable cover and was washable. I washed the cover and the pillow they actually lay on in cold water on a gentle cycle and laid them out to dry. Super rinsed! I was so happy with this item to the point that I had to put the cap back on which is why this product didn't get 5 stars from me. After spending 15 minutes figuring out how the foam actually fits into the case and how to line up the zipper with one part on the velor material itself and the other on the underside where the cushion sits, I struggled for another 15 minutes trying to align the shorter foam with the lid design and ended up having to call my son who is a future mechanical engineer to find out because that's the kind of skill it takes to get that smelly lid back! The person(s) who designed the cover for this bed must: (a) not be a pet owner, (b) not be a mother of three children, nor be a pet owner, (c) not be the Mom of three because and also a pet owner and also a full-time employee because what mom of three and full-time pet owner has the time to put in the effort to put that cover back on? Overall I'm very happy with the quality of the material and the comfort it seems to offer my old Malti-Poo. But beware of that cover when it comes time to wash it for the first time, because chances are that if you don't have an engineering degree, you've exhausted your list of "dirty crap" if you get him . everyone back together!
