Review on ๐Ÿ”Š Definitive Technology Studio Advance 5.1 Channel Sound Bar with 9 Speakers and 8" Wireless Subwoofer - Built-in Chromecast, Bluetooth, HDMI ARC by Danielle Aycock

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sounds good, value is not enough.

I bought this for its small form factor and advertised expandability with additional Def Tech Bluetooth speakers (more on that in a moment). As advertised, the form factor is small. Which is perfect for us. Ultimately, size comes at the expense of sound; Mids and highs sound "tinny". Despite their claims, the device does poorly at separating dialogue from background music and ambient noise. As a result, we see with subtitles. When it comes to music, this is nothing short of a bigger and louder BlueTooth speaker. Sound is so-so, and if you're expecting more clarity or an audiophile experience, check that expectation at the door. The mid and high frequencies flow into each other, and the low frequencies periodically disappear (connection problems), and then their possible reappearance can be annoying. Speaking of connectivity issues, after setting it up I found that they changed their operating system with this device and there are no other products in their product line. In short, this soundbar does not interact with any of their other products and is not expandable. All in all, I don't recommend this soundbar unless you want a full-size, minimal-size bar. The sound is easily in the $200-$300 range, period. There is no connection at all. IMO up the size and get a Sonos or something at that level.
