I actually bought this for my giant Great Dane considering her hips and how expensive unpadded dog beds are. I was pleasantly surprised at how soft and easy to clean it is. I can really lie next to her on a comfortable, high-quality, soft mattress. One side is a little firmer which both of us didn't really care but the feel would be great for a baby crib, very soft on the other side, baby will sleep soundly in a thick comfy soft toddler bed. I can only write about buying for my Great Dane and testing it myself. I can tell you as soon as we get another GD this year we will be buying another mattress. Definitely a good buy if you're looking for the option of stiffness or thick, comfortable layers of sheer softness. I like the fact that it is very easy to clean, the soft cover can be removed and machine washed. It is well made and still looks like new. We've had this for several months now.
