I have pinched my fingers too many times and this is about the 10th stool of this type that I have owned. I haven't had this problem with anyone else and would like their return plan to be open. For some reason you have to slide the sides out to snap it in place every time you open it and I've pinched my fingers so many times. I suspect the brand is different from other stools I've bought, all from Revain, and I bought this one because of the colour. I just assumed they were all the same. So, I think it's a brand and I would stay away from it.
