Review on ⌚ Quartz Pocket Watch with Vintage Numerals by Mark Fleming

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Interesting story behind this watch. But I really like it!

This is really good. I can say good quality. After I bought it I noticed that number 4 was shown as IIII instead of IV. So. I thought it was the price I didn't have (too much quality for a very low price. Must be a mistake). I've started researching this and it seems to be the way to go. I mean we all know that 4 is represented by IV in Roman, but there are many theories as to why it doesn't look like "mandatory" in hours, some of them refer to kings, some just for symmetry reasons. The thing is, it's not just about these watches. I leave part of what I found here: King Louis XIV of France reportedly preferred IIII to IV, perhaps for the same vain reasons that Jupiter didn't want two letters of his name on a sundial and so ordered his watchmakers to use the to use first letter . . Some later watchmakers followed tradition, others did not. Another reason for using IIII is that it creates more visual symmetry with VIII opposite on the dial than IV. Using IIII also means that only I is visible at the first four hour markers, V only at the next four markers is visible and X is only visible at the last four marks, creating radial symmetry. I don't know if that's true, but . Still interesting :)
