I have had several of these supposedly premium Marineland hoods and am revising this review due to all the issues I deal with using this method every day. - an overpriced product. They may do things differently than they used to, but the lights don't last long if you use them every day. Also, the cheap plastic switch to toggle between the light modes is sooo cheap you almost have to force it back and forth even after a few months. On this model they increased the brightness of the white light by 25% which caused all my plants to turn an awkward color and now algae have appeared due to overgrowth. As for the beautiful blue lights, they're minimal, so I had to add my own blue stripe to the underside of the hood to actually light up the entire 20-gallon tank. Plastic hood, I give minus 100 stars for that. The edges are so thin and poorly designed and the light bar is much heavier making the top of the hood heavy and difficult to balance on the aquarium! The edges are constantly trying to slide off the tank and fall off easily, and I say every time I touch it, and no, I'm not being bullying. Definitely not what you expect when paying a high price for a Marineland product. I recommend a simple reptile aquarium cover with one of the many competing lights so the white isn't too bright and the blue part actually covers the width of the aquarium. Revain sells many of these lamps.
