Disappointing performance but better than nothing

Out of the box the Digitone did not block any of the unwanted calls I received. Insurance companies trying to sell me Medigap or Medicare Advantage policies. This device does not block any of these calls. Callers rarely use the same company name or phone number twice, so blocking by name or number is pretty pointless. As the election approached, I hoped this would block some of the calls I would receive promoting candidates. But recently it was not possible to block a call with the identifier "political call". Something so simple and obvious should have been blocked by default. I received a call recently and the caller ID said 'Invalid number' and the first operator number was 1. Again you would think a call this obviously unwanted would be automatically blocked. but Digitone skips it. Most of my unwanted calls have a caller ID with a state name like "New York Call" or "Michigan Call". Any call with this status name is unwanted and none of them will be automatically blocked. I don't know why they don't. You can only manually block 50 names so I don't run out of space if I need to block every state name. Luckily for me, most of the calls I get are from the same three or four states, so blocking those few names has greatly reduced the number of unwanted calls. That's the only reason I didn't return the Digitone. As I program more and more names into the device it will gradually become more useful, but based on the reviews and product description I expected better performance from the start. For call blockers, I've narrowed my choices down to Digitone or Sentry. I like the Sentry concept of pressing a button before answering a call, but so many reviewers complained about how the device worked that I finally settled on the Digitone. It would be nice to find a call blocker that uses the call filtering approaches of both devices, but I don't think that will ever happen.
