Had to buy so my new mattress would be covered under warranty (Stearns & Foster bought from Macy's - had to return the mattress as it arrived with constant depression when someone very heavy for months slept in one place). As mentioned, the waterproof material sounds like plastic, but that's to be expected since that's what makes it waterproof. Conspicuous, but no reason to return. 3 stars because it's not perfect, but it works. Not washed yet.
