I've used it unheated, heated on #5 and #2. It keeps me warm and helps me sleep soundly when the window next to my bed makes the room so cold that the heater can't keep up (fault in duct design, it's on the door instead of the window). I have tried other electric blankets and their wiring is so far apart that you can feel the cold between them. This one is comfortable and very heavy. It won't work if you want something light. The best I've ever had. After a week of heat use I would like to warn people that the timer only works up to 9.5 hours; The setting above is 1.0 and goes to 1.2, after which it turns off. Also, set the heat setting last, as messing around with the timer without checking the heat resulted in a browning at level 8 instead of the level 5 I had set it to. and I had to turn it off and stick my arms and legs out from under the covers until it cooled (an hour or more in the middle of the night). Cal King, so it needs extra fabric so it can be tucked in and keep your feet warm when you dangle them over the foot of the bed (which you have to do since it's so heavy).
