Review on πŸ”₯ Ultimate Protection: BENCHMARK FR Flame Resistant Gaiter for Men's Accessories by Larry Gaines

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works, Made in the USA, Inexpensive

First I tested these leggings for fire resistance. I have quite a bit of experience with FR clothing and can confirm that it is FR clothing. You may see Revain consumer photos showing burn holes in the product, but all FR garments are destroyed when exposed to fire. What they don't show in the picture is that all FR products become brittle when burned and crack very easily after being exposed to a flame so there is a hole that needs to be photographed. There are better products (Massif, Dri-fire, etc.) but they are much more expensive as they are made from a higher proportion of blends of better materials (nomex, modacrylic, etc.). It's a bit odd that the benchmark doesn't list the exact composition of the material on the label, instead saying "2nd Skin Modacrylic/Cotton/Nylon Blend". It's not clear if they use a flame retardant or non-dripping/melting chemical treatment. I would buy it again as it's made in the USA and is surprisingly cheap.

Pros
  • Lifetime arc and fire resistance. This 5.2 ounce material is a soft blend of modacrylic, cotton and nylon. They remain arc and fire resistant regardless of wash and wear cycles. These neck seals or face masks meet NFPA 70E, HRC / CAT 1, EBT = 6.4 cal/sq. cm and conform to ASTM F1506. In the event of an arc or stab fire, do not add fuel to the fire. One size fits all. These FR gaiters have an asymmetric, stretchy, ribbed fit to fit all head sizes.
Cons
  • Not everything fits
