Before I start, I want to clarify that I am not an expert or even a seasoned photographer. In fact, my only previous camera was a small point and shoot camera that didn't really fit my needs. Because of this, I decided to take it a step further and tackle the bridge camera. I did a lot of research and found this camera to be the best rated in its class and price range. The two things that really drove me nuts about my old camera was that it only had a 3x zoom, which it didn't really have. doesn't work unless I was right about the topic. Also, I couldn't adjust any settings to be able to take pictures of my jewelry. Both of these issues were resolved along with many others in the chamber. The 24x zoom is great, especially when I'm trying to get some good wildlife photos, and I've found that the burst mode really helps with that too. Haven't taken any pictures of the jewelry yet, but just knowing that I can make any adjustments needed to make it really shine, I'm blown away. There is only one thing I would like to change about this camera and that is the manual. It is in PDF format on the CD that accompanies the camera. I would have preferred a printed manual. Oh, and it would be great if you could learn what comes with the camera itself for those of us taking our first steps in real photography.
