Excellent fit, better than the original Canon lens hood

I love how snugly this lens hood fits my 100-400mm. Both the original Canon lens hood and the JJC replacement lens hood had the problem that my lens fell down in the field (on August 13, 2011, my Canon lens hood even fell into the sea, which was my original reason for buying a replacement). This Haoge hood never does. To me, this is the perfect level of tightness that can't be accidentally released, but isn't too difficult to intentionally remove. This is a very close cream color match for 100-400mm, much closer than the JJC LH cream. -83°C (W). I also like the minimal amount of text; all it has is "ET-83C" while JJC has a lot more text (although the 2012 version of JJC seems to have been blank). It has no play when attached, while the original from Canon and JJC usually does, which causes them to sometimes make an annoying slight rattling noise when moved. This Haoge hood is quiet even when I wear the 100-400mm + camera + hood on my forearm with the hood resting on my arm. (After prolonged use, or perhaps depending on the temperature, there may be some play and noise, but in my experience this is very little and only happens when the hood is touched directly.) This hood absorbs high impact well. (e.g. because the camera was dropped with the lens and lens hood attached); This has happened to me a couple of times and the Haoge hood has sometimes broke completely, but usually it just lost some of the threads and popped out of the lens (in which case it can often still be used); in any case, this greatly reduces damage to the 100-400mm lens and camera (in particular, the lens hood threads have always been intact in my experience). (In my experience, the JJC was more prone to cracking, rendering it unusable, at least without tape.) I'm currently using my third Haoge ET-83C. Before that I went through three JJC LH-83C(W) hoods from 2012, the third of which never broke but stopped using it because of its play. I've had a Canon 100-400mm since 2008. (As for the 100-400mm, since 2011 I've repaired it myself and realigned it when damaged.) It screws 100-400mm clockwise (when looking into the front member, so looking counterclockwise) when holding the camera taking photos), and there are two mounting orientations that are 180 degrees opposite. So you have two choices as to where the text "ET-83C” should go. Unfortunately, there is no consistency from copy to copy where this text is printed. With the three Haoge ET-83C hoods I've had, it was in a very different position each time. I would have preferred the text to be just above or just below, but only one of my Haoge hoods had it lined up that way. (This is my biggest criticism of this product, but so minor that I still give it 5 stars). probably lets less stray light into the lens than the matte black interior of this hood (and other replacement hoods). Of course, like the original Canon ET-83C, it's designed for use with full-frame 100-400mm lenses. That means it lets in a lot more ambient light than you need when shooting APS-C or M4/3 without a teleconverter. I plan to one day make a special insert that blocks as much stray light as possible to use the M4/3 (since I've been using my 100-400mm since mid-2017).

Not the greatest fit making it difficult to put on. Disappointed with this product.
