I don't think it's hypoallergenic.
I bought this as a confirmation gift for my son. In fact, he was very excited to get it and has worn it a lot in the past 4 months. So the staying power is pretty good (because he's rough with his stuff!). But he has eczema, skin so sensitive (albeit quite light), and he really broke out of the chain on his neck.
