I ordered this radio to add FM radio reception to my home office stereo (ASIN B08F7R6SHW not included) and also because I was curious about how all band reception works. This affordable compact radio is a small rectangle with a detachable whip antenna. It is powered by an internal rechargeable lithium battery and has an internal 2 inch speaker. The speaker turns off when you connect headphones (not included) or AUX-out cable (not included) to the rear audio jack. After reception, the first step is to charge the radio with the supplied USB-A charging cable; The rear LED turns RED while charging and turns BLUE when fully charged. I can ask technical questions. I haven't seen any mention (or need) of reprogramming/updating the radio's digital software. When used as an FM tuner, the radio offers good stereo fidelity and sensitivity comparable to a component stereo receiver. Stations are selected by rotating the tuning knob while observing the A/N frequency display; Pushing the tuning knob in will search up in frequency to the next strong FM station. (S:> on the A/N display) are low and you must use the BW button to set the AM reception bandwidth to 6 kHz. There is no search function on the longwave (LW), AM and shortwave (HF) bands. HF reception is nominally 1.8 to 30.0 MHz in 18 discrete (non-contiguous) frequency bands; The tuning speed is set in steps of 1, 5 and 10 kHz. To change the frequency, you need to press the BAND +/- buttons to select the band you want, then manually scan the band by turning the smooth-running tuning knob. I haven't found a way to add a keypad to this radio to allow direct entry of the desired frequency. LW and HF reception is mainly limited by a whip antenna; The whip antenna has a standard BNC connector and anyone serious about listening in the LW and HF bands will use a better quality (preferably outdoor) antenna. I was able to receive WWV on 5.0MHz, international stations on the 49m HF band and SSB ham radio calls on the 40m ham band. The radio does not have an automatic noise limiter, but a variable bandwidth filter reduces receive noise somewhat.
