Review on 🎧 Experience Superior Sound Quality with Master & Dynamic MH40 Over-Ear Headphones - Noise Isolating Studio Headphones with Mic for Recording by Robert Lee

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Beautiful looks, fantastic build quality, sound quality just ok

This is the third pair of 'good' headphones I've bought in less than a year. The NAD headphones ($399) looked cool but had very mediocre sound quality (the designer was clearly trying to make them sound like living room speakers, which in my humble opinion didn't sound very good). The second time I put them on the headband adjustment broke so I sent them back. I then settled on the Bowers & Wilkins PX (also $399), which had excellent materials and build quality, as well as better sound quality. Unfortunately the Bluetooth wireless functionality didn't work and they disconnected every second or two, literally 30 or 40 times in a row every time I tried to use them. And every time they disconnected, I had to turn them on and keep reconnecting. I sent them in for repair and they sent me a new pair telling me they agreed there was a problem but couldn't fix it. The second pair sounded great at first. . . then they started doing the same. I tried the recommended firmware updates but the problem was still there. In the end I sent them back. The reason I mention this is that Revain buried my criticism of the B&W PX headphones and I think potential buyers should be aware that there can be a fault with PX headphones. My third pick was the Master & Dynamic MH40 in brown leather and silver metal ($299 a month or two ago, $199 now). They look very nice and the materials and build quality are excellent for the price. And the closer you look, the more impressive they are in terms of build quality and premium materials. I really like them, but I have four rather minor criticisms/comments: 1) The sound quality is good, but definitely not in the B&W PX class. . . again they don't cost that much; 2) do not stay on your head, even if you bend a little; 3) The ear pads are probably too soft so they tend to curl a bit on my head because the front of the ear pad is too soft; 4) They come with a long braided cable and a shorter braided cable with a mic and volume control that appear to be premium, but the button on the shorter cable doesn't seem to work. Despite this criticism, I would still rate it very well, between 4 and 4.5 stars. What I like most about them is the look and build quality. I wish the sound quality was better at lower volumes, but it actually gets better at higher volumes, which I don't think most headphones usually do. Overall I really like them for the price and found I didn't miss the wireless and noise-cancelling features as much as I expected.
