For many years I have occasionally sewed clothes on a sewing machine and thought I knew what I was doing. This is my first sergeant. It took me a month to open the box and try it - I admit I was scared. The first hour of use was very frustrating as I kept trying to apply my not so compatible sewing machine knowledge. These cars are different. Realizing how "difficult" (but actually more than difficult) threading is, I spent 2 hours neatening old towels. I definitely cut away a lot more than I needed just because it was so much fun! The next day I ran to local stores to buy yarn, because I need a lot for an overlock! I may feel like knives have dulled a bit after my first splash on the serger :) The towels are thick and that's no surprise. Towards the end the machine started cutting thick sections, but when I checked the regular thickness material everything was fine. My longtime sewing machine is a Brother and I'm very happy with it - simple and strong enough for the home. use. At first I went straight to Brother Serger but it turned out to have some bad reviews which can be misleading at times and I ended up going with Singer Serger - also because it had stock for Black Friday. I really enjoyed the YouTube tutorials on the official Singer channel. It made a big difference. I went a little crazy at first, and as soon as I saw the video it all fell into place. ) The towels are thick and it's not surprising.
