I've only worn NB Minimus running shoes for many years. I wanted to try cross country shoes to avoid wasting extra miles on running shoes. Some trail shoes have a zero drop and others have a 4mm drop. I prefer the zero drop but ignore the 4mm the shoe has. I feel a slight rise, but it doesn't matter much. The narrower toe box is more noticeable. They are a lot narrower so I had to order them in W (wide) to fit comfortably. Still, I wish I had more room for my toes. Luckily, the good stretchy jersey they're made from offers some benefits. Another feature of these shoes is the heel. Perhaps because they want to add stability for standing weights(?), the heel is very stiff and awkward. This noticeably increases the weight of the shoe and makes it less manoeuvrable. Despite all that, they still have a fit that wraps around the heel and midfoot and opens up at the forefoot. Even though they are heavier, they are still light compared to many sneakers. The laces are good, not long, well tied. So far, the tread has performed well for both indoor floors and sidewalks. The collar has adequate padding but not too much (minimum). I think what won me over was how cool these shoes look. The shirt is very trendy and the embossed New Balance "N" on the shirt looks great in the subtle silver colorway. They look sleek but solid. I have black ones and they go well with gym clothes or jeans and can probably even make a casual look for going out. So I kept them and wear them often, although I wish they were wider at the toe and lighter and less stiff at the heel. They don't feel perfect, but they're pretty good. And they look great.
