Bought for multiple purposes. Second, I have some bright LED lights that were originally intended for photography, so attached to a standard mount. Sometimes I like to use them as task lights when I'm working on a craft project that needs good lighting. This stand is perfect for that. Easily attaches to desk, holds securely, light is easy to install. The main use is to monitor one of my 3D printers. I can just attach it to my desk where my printers are, attach the webcam to the stand, point it at my printers and walk away. The printers are in the basement and it's very convenient to keep track of my printouts around the house. The stand is easy to attach, very strong, and it's very easy to swap out the camera with the light.
