Enough spring tension to hold bags of chips closed, although wide bag clips for multiple bags would work better if the spring pressure was a bit higher. While the small clips are good for sealing bags (which is what we bought them for), the flared tops pop out far enough to remove the magnet from a flat surface like a fridge should you want to use that feature. Hanging on our fridge, barely holding a 4x6 photo, the little clip struggles to support the weight of a child's drawing drawn on a piece of colored paper. It slides slowly over the refrigerator door. I think I like our old OXO pocket clips better but they still do their job.
