Review on Maxpedition MXTSALOCB BRK Tactical Luggage Lock by Lisa Hedberg

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Alternative uses and additional sizes

I didn't buy this lock for luggage but for a hard walled box used to transport an expensive and heavy lens. I wasn't worried about a lock to deter theft as I figured someone would just take the tool box (but I guess that goes for luggage too) although it might be of value if left in the motel room, to prevent honest people from looking inward. out of curiosity and then succumbed to temptation. Because the toolbox latch opens too easily, I needed a backup or failsafe to protect the lens if the latch catches on something or doesn't fully close due to accidental opening. Since I could never find the exact size of the closed lock from the top of the lock to the top of the cable, I wasn't 100% sure if this lock would work for my purposes. FWIW: This size is 1 and 1/2 inches (1.5 inches). The diameter of the metal end of the cable shaft that goes into the lock is 1/8" (also a size I wasn't sure about), the cable is obviously a slightly smaller diameter. I have a little over 1/ 8" (9/64") hole drilled through the tab on the box to be able to store the lock for security when not in use and to create a second locking position. All of this can be seen in the photos, and a picture shows what the lock looks like from the back. The lock has a strong, weighty feel. The feeling of rock hardness.A clear click can be heard as the cable rod enters the lock, letting you know it is securely locked. Enter: 1) there is no key to fiddle with, follow, etc.; 2) when installing the selected combination, the cable can be literally released by pressing the button protruding on one side. and 3) the flexibility of the cable allows options that a lock with a solid metal shackle or shank cannot offer. If necessary, this lock can also be easily operated in the dark by simply pressing the protruding button to open it (when the combination is set).
