Review on πŸ”Œ USB2.0 to Ultra SCSI Converter: Harness the Power of Ultra SCSI Devices as USB2.0 by Kevin Gunnmann

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Worked Immediately - Computer Accessories and Peripherals

I use this converter with Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and external SCSI-1 removable media (Fujitsu DynaMO 640 Magneto-Optical Drive). I also use a passive adapter to change the connector. When I first tried it, it worked without installing any additional drivers. It's even better than the SCSI PCI card I had before because the Ratoc converter plugs into an external drive. This means I can turn on the external drive after I turn on the computer and then the SCSI drive will appear, effectively making it hot-swappable (which standard SCSI is not). Note that your SCSI device must provide termination current for this to work. I found no problems with the computer sleeping or repeatedly inserting discs. At least in my configuration this converter works fine. I also considered a Ratoc Systems FR1SX FireWire to Ultra SCSI (IEEE1394) converter, but stopped there as I have more USB ports than Firewire ports and the external drive is very slow. that the speed of a modern interface (USB vs. Firewire) is irrelevant.
