I'm using a 2012 MacBook Pro 15" (non-Retina) with this monitor and it's been great. I've been using my laptop for 8 years now and have decided I need more real estate. Originally I was planning to get a new 2019 16" MacBook Pro and a USB-C input type for a 4k monitor setup, but it was around $3,000. I'm not that knowledgeable about computer hardware, but wanted more options for encoding and performance. After extensive research, I found that I could connect a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to this monitor on my MBP via a Thunderbolt 1 port and a separate HDMI cable. As soon as I got this monitor I realized that 1080p resolution is more than I need and a very cheap solution. Even if I upgrade my MBP to a 2019 16 inch monitor, I will continue to use this monitor. The curved screen takes a little getting used to, but that doesn't bother me. If you're a heavy spreadsheet user, consider using a flat screen instead, as the lines aren't as linear as you'd like. However, watching movies is great and I'm not a gamer, but I'm sure it's great for gaming too. My only regret is that I wish I had bought this monitor sooner!
