it was intentional. The plastic material is questionable. Must have some metal parts as it seems a bit fragile. I haven't used it regularly as it looks like it could break and my $1000 phone could fall, but I definitely use something if you have no choice but to use your phone this way as a cheaper alternative to use an external camera monitor. for short periods.
