Love, love, love this butter keeper! It arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I bought red, beautiful bright color. I washed both pieces making sure the top was completely dry. I filled the bottom with water up to the measuring line (such a useful feature) and placed the softened butter on top, being careful not to get air pockets because I didn't want to risk the butter slipping out. Do not worry. I change the water every day or so - I don't go more than 2 days - and my oil stays soft and doesn't go bad at all. I only fill 1/2 cup (a full pack) of oil at a time. So when I put the top on, no oil gets on it. I also think you get a better seal if there is some air between the oil and water. I was thinking of gluing a gasket on the lid because it doesn't completely cover the bottom. It seems like he wants to slide a little from side to side. This is probably caused by the weight of the oil in the bell. Other than that I am very happy with this purchase.
