Simple and versatile

I prefer overhead phone holders that use metal/magnets between the phone and the mount. This was for a relative who doesn't like putting 3M stuff in their car and is a little paranoid about magnets and phones. The instructions are on the side of the box but can be a bit vague so I can help explain here. In my third picture, the center knob (yellow frame) is used to tighten the retainer to the mount itself. I would unscrew it completely and put it on a mounting pear (as seen in the fifth picture). This allows the plastic behind the phone mount to flex and easily insert into the lightbulb. Then pull the center handle back to its original position on the back of the phone holder. In addition, there are two buttons on the back of the phone holder. One (red) opens the sides and two (green) slides out the bottom. The construction is almost entirely plastic, but the suction cup is very durable and for the most part the mount fits almost any device. You'd think the plastic would make everything fall apart and become flimsy from the weight, but there are a few parts that you can tighten and pull certain hinges/levers on to get them in properly and securely. For reference, the images shown here are for the LG V20. I doubt it will fit on a phablet like the Galaxy Note. It is not shown in my photos, but you can also just install it on the window. I just have an odd dislike for a phone holder sticking out of my window/view while driving.
