Like many newborns, my 3 week old baby didn't sleep much at night unless held. During the day he slept well sitting on chairs or swings that he felt comfortable in. I couldn't spend money on a proprietary version just in case it didn't work. This piece was very valuable and worked like a charm! The bed can be compressed very tightly to accommodate a newborn. It holds him in place so he can't press his face against the edges and should give him a feeling of being held or secure. In the last two nights since we got this he has slept 2.5 to 5.5 hours straight instead of the 20 minutes straight he slept in his bassinet. It's currently in the middle of our bed so I can easily check on it all night, but it will fit perfectly in his bassinet and eventually his crib. The only downside I see is that you can't remove the outer padding to wash, so the wash has to be done with plenty of air drying time. This is baby #4 and I would like to find him for #1 5 years ago.
