I was obsessed with old-fashioned double bed frames that were the size of a pocket spring and mattress and had raised corners to keep them securely in place. It seems like they just don't make them anymore. This platform was cheap, so we gave it a try. The bonus is that we didn't have to buy a box spring bed. However, nothing prevents the mattress from sliding right off the platform. I was afraid to let my elderly mother sleep on it even one night because if she tossed and turned too much she would fall on the floor mattress and all. Luckily, the clerk at the local mattress store (whom I desperately asked for advice) recommended that I go to Home Depot and buy a carpet pad. For about $20 I bought a 5ft x 8ft thin rubber pad and placed it between the mattress and the platform. That works great. The mattress is held firmly in place by the lining, and the lining is thin enough to be trimmed to fit with scissors. Just be prepared to pay an extra $$ for a pad to keep your mattress secure on this platform.
