We adopted some fluffy goats and wanted a dog bed in the back of a truck. We spend quite a bit of time in our truck and our truck has a back seat that folds up and the floor folds down to form a straight, flat platform. This platform creates a nice big area for dogs, but it's hard so we wanted a bed that's soft for furry kids to ride on. We thought this dog bed looked like it would get the job done. This dog bed comes in a small two piece box. The duvet is folded into a box and the egg carton mattress is sealed and then rolled up and placed in a pillow sized plastic bag. I carefully cut open the outer bag and unfolded the sealed mattress and placed it in the sleeve before removing the mattress from the vacuum sleeve. I just wanted to make sure how it would fit on the lid. I then carefully cut it out of the vacuum bag with scissors. You wouldn't want to use a carpet cutter for this or you'll be cutting the mattress. As soon as you cut open the vacuum bag, the mattress will immediately begin to expand. I did not notice any strong odors caused by the outgassing of the mattress materials. It was a little tight to zip up the cover but it definitely fits perfectly and keeps the cover snug on the mattress so it looks nice. This is XL size. and the mattress is 4 inches thick which is dog sized and does not flatten easily or provide support. I've even sat on this mattress and found it damn comfortable. The cover is soft and machine washable if needed, and the bottom is waterproof with small silicone dots to keep it in place. I think this makes a great gift for your furry kids, whether they're getting older and need the supportive softness of an eggcrate mattress, or they're from an orphanage and deserve a little rest. If it starts to break or deteriorate in the future I'll update this review but it seems to be of good quality. I recommend.
