Review on Powell Furniture Barstool Chrome Black by Michelle Smith

Missing Parts & Dangerously Sharp Surfaces (Updated)

I recently purchased a Powell polyurethane adjustable bar stool and noticed that a part is missing. I'm not sure if the thimble is critical to the design of the chair, but since it's absent I really don't know. This is a collar-like piece that allows the bottom post to go into the base. I won't pick it up until I have the part. It wasn't in the box. The seat is also finished in metallic chrome on all sides, but there's a portion that rises above the leather where the back of the seat meets the underside of the seat on the side facing the person sitting in the chair. As I can't put it together I can't test if it would be a problem but it looks like it could cut someone really badly if they aren't careful. It's not the most expensive stool and I don't have high expectations like the $400 stool. However, with a sharp finish that you could easily cut yourself on and a missing piece. I'm really sad I wasted money and now it's time to fix it. I hope Powell support will take care of this soon. I will update my review as soon as I hear from them. Update: Powell was quick to supply the missing part and the stool was assembled within a week. I've raised my rating from 1 star to 3 because the finish is still an issue and Powell didn't even ask me about it despite my email. I don't really like the stool because, while its shape is visually appealing, it is not suitable for normal sitting. The wings at the front of the chair hug the bottom/side of each leg, eliminating any desire to sit for long periods. Overall I would not recommend this product to anyone based on the issues encountered and I would point them towards a more traditional stool with a fully flat padded seat.
