I bought this bookshelf to replace an old one that was falling apart. The assembly went pretty smoothly. All you need is a Phillips screwdriver, which is not included. There are no written directions in the instructions, so be good with the diagrams. Small warning: it is NOT very durable (we have it on carpet but even our old one was more durable than this one). It's just a little wobbly and it's the first bookshelf I've used lag screws to attach to the wall, just in case, so take it for what it's worth.
