Review on New Model Wacom PTH660 Medium Intuos Pro Drawing Tablet for Mac or PC - Black by Joey Richardson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The hardware is ok, the software is terrible. Consider other brands.

Paint software used: PaintToolSAI version 1 and 2. The hardware is nice. I love that the keys are capacitive and that the screen displays a tooltip telling you what your fingers are on (which isn't useful if you remember the functions anyway). The tablet feels solid and the stylus is light and comfortable. However, I couldn't use Bluetooth, so I don't know how stable it is. However, the USB Type-C cable works well. I also have no complaints about the accuracy of the digitizer. I can't try the tilt feature though. It seems to work just as well as my Bamboo Fun. BUT. The tablet's surface and pen tip hold everything back. If you make them interchangeable, you might think that the product is better and will last longer, but the opposite is true. Years later, the surface of my Bamboo Fun is still smooth with nothing but cosmetic scratches that won't go away. affect the experience of using the tablet. The tips could be better, they could spin like the Intuos Pro M, but as long as they don't wear out that quickly the feeling of using them remains fairly constant, which is very important when painting digitally. Removed all variables except artist ability. Intuos Pro M starts out too sticky. It took me a little time to get used to it. The surface is much softer than my other tablet. In addition, standard springs are also softer. what do you think happened The tablet's surface abraded the pen tip until it was sharp enough to damage the tablet. A month later, a shiny spot appeared in the center. Now this stain looks like a mirror as the surface has worn away. And all for a few months of infrequent use. I don't even press the pen hard. I reduced the pressure to avoid damaging the surface. The attrition consistency also varies across the tablet. It's smoother in the center and gets tackier towards the edges as my gloved hand mostly polishes the surface. Not to mention that feathers have changed in shape since the last generation. Why did they need it? I do not know. But now you have fewer options and types of tips to choose from. Now we come to the software. GOD'S DRIVER IS TERRIBLE. I've never had an iron worse than this driver. Even the Bamboo Fun driver works flawlessly compared to the crap that powers this much newer and more expensive device. Each session begins with a ritual. The driver needs to be restarted every time the tablet is connected to the network, otherwise my computer wakes up by opening services.exe, finding the driver and clicking restart. Even if that doesn't work right now. I need to stop and then start the driver. Can't Wacom even program a driver that works reliably? Every hardware company whose product I've used seems to have no problem with that. And my friend who uses a similar Wacom product told me that she has the exact same problem. Easy to fix right? I can handle it. DID I TELL YOU THAT THE COMPANY LEADS THE INDUSTRY WITH ITS PRODUCTS AND THAT THIS TABLET COSTS $350? Even clones seem to work better. Damn terrible for a company everyone looks up to. But that's not all. Installing the latest update has completely destroyed cursor alignment in SAI and I have commissions that I am paid to complete. I had to revert to a previous version as none of the hidden "Fix Faulty Wacom Driver" options in the SAI .cfg files fixed the problem. THE SETTINGS. I have to reconfigure my tablet from scratch in hopes that I can regain the same feeling without wasting the part of the day when I'm most awake and able to work efficiently. But there is a backup function in the software. just for this situation! Yes. I have backed up my settings. I was smart But you forgot an important detail? Wacom isn't smart anymore because the backup doesn't work with my driver version. Yes. Settings that don't change between versions can't even be backed up and kept until the bombs fall. What if I updated and my settings got erased and then I tried to use a backup? And that's just the scenario that makes sense. I had just dumped my settings off the face of the earth for no reason. I haven't changed anything in the software at all. If you want a hassle free experience. Stay away from Wacom. There are quite a few similar tablets from other brands that are very similar for less money. Do your research and learn about the different options. This product appears to be designed to cheat you out of more money by forcing you to buy new finishes and tips every few months. Not to mention the huge bugs in the software that have not been fixed. fixed months and updates later. I cannot recommend this tablet with the software in the state it is in.
