'06 mall. Perfectly good for interior decoration

As car key technology develops, it becomes more and more expensive to replace keys. Not much with this product. anyway for Scion tc. Both of my standard keys were worn out so I decided to try 2 replacement key products: a plain black replacement key as well as a VW style flip key (obviously sent from another country so beware a month to arrive). . First, if you're not too smart at taking things apart and putting them back together (and even if you are), watch some YouTube videos on how to transfer your innards to a new key. Yes, you will need a working transmitter from your old key as well as a chip (if you want the key to start the car). The chip is glued into your old key, so you must destroy it to get the key. chips off I used needle nose pliers to rip off the plastic and also a razor blade to go between the plastic and the chip to create a separation. It hurt a little, but both chips came out fine. The chip was inserted into the direct key and entered the housing very firmly. With the folding key, the fit was snug instead of tight, and when you tighten the back there's a piece of plastic to hold it in place, so don't worry. Find a local locksmith to cut your blades! Lowes, Walmart, and others won't, so don't waste your time. They have "politics". The locksmith will tell you "no guarantees," but that's just so you don't get mad if they mess up the key. My local locksmith did a good job. And even if they didn't, I would buy another one and let them try again. Still cheaper than going to the dealer. The folding key obviously has a spring. So if your locksmith can't cut it as an assembly, you'll have to take it apart, which means you'll have to put the spring back in place. A little trial and error and you will find the right mounting tension. Both have good knobs and don't feel cheap. My only gripe with these two buttons has to do with the look of the flip button. The straight key has a snap design for easy access. There are screws on the flip key, two of which can be covered with the supplied Toyota sticker (not Scion. Boo), while the other two are always visible. So it's not a "clean" look, but that doesn't bother me. Also, the silver (color?) where the blade is located looks a bit cheesy. After I pointed it out. in the end it's just the key. I didn't buy them because of their aerodynamic, sleek design. I bought them to replace the keys that lock/unlock and start my car. I recommend both products to anyone looking to replace their worn factory keys.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
