Not my best purchase, you could have found something else.

For the very, very beginners - if they understand that it is not their business, it will not be a pity to throw out the carcass, and sell the lens for a couple of thousand. The lens, by the way, is quite decent.
But for that kind of money, it's better to take a used Canon 30D with a canon ef 17-85mm f/4-5.6 is lens - a much more interesting camera with a wonderful lens.
