Socks change our situation

I have a 14 year old chocolate lab. We have hardwood floors throughout the ground floor of our home. Bianca always slipped on our wooden floors with her furry feet. But she was more agile and could support herself. Now she has arthritis in her elbows. Her hind legs have become unsteady on the hardwood floors and her elbows hurt. She slipped daily and by the end of the night the pain in her elbows was getting worse. We needed them to have stability when standing or walking. I bought socks. She tolerates them on the hind legs but not on the front legs. These are soft socks, so I take them off and on when the floor is wet outside. I have to correct them several times a day because they are spinning or slipping. We have 4 socks so I turn them inside out and wash them with the laundry (we use 2 at a time). These socks changed the rules of the game. Bianca is absolutely stable on wooden floors. Their hind legs don't slip. She is more active during the day because she is stable. It's less stiff because it moves more. The pain in my arthritic elbows has been greatly reduced. I didn't realize how much work their front legs were doing to stabilize their back legs. She has more energy because she feels better. Bianca took 2 types of painkillers and anti-inflammatories. She was limping on her front paws, but the medication helped with the pain. Now she takes an anti-inflammatory and a painkiller once a day. At the end of the day she is half as lame as before, but in the morning she is lame again. I was very skeptical about the socks, but they fit us. I'm very glad I tried them.
